India’s Homeland Security Budget and Requirements for 2009/10

India’s homeland security agencies receive 25% increase in budget
India’s homeland security agencies which primarily consist of the paramilitary forces, state and central police forces and the intelligence agencies, all under the aegis of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, received a substantial 25% increase in their budget spending for 2009-10.

The paramilitary forces are allocated INR 21,634.15 crore (USD 4.3 billion) for 2009-10 as against INR 17,354 crore (USD 3.4 billion) in 2008-09.

Breakdown of the budget amongst paramilitary forces is as follows:

  • Central Reserve Paramilitary Force (CRPF) gets a 26% increased allocation of INR 6973.86 crores (USD 1.4 billion)
  • The Border Security Force (BSF) guarding the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the country’s 6,622 kms border with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar gets a 20.06 % increased allocation of INR 6488.14 crore (USD 1.3 billion)
  • The Central Industrial Reserve Force (CISF) gets a 21.47% increased allocation of INR 2430.98 crores (USD 500 million). They have the additional responsibility of guarding Indian missions abroad and companies seeking security
  • Assam Rifles, operating in insurgency-hit North East India, gets INR 2329.11 crores (USD 470 million) - an increase of 34% funds for this fiscal year
  • Delhi Police gets INR 7359.38 crore (USD 1.47 billion) for the Commonwealth Games security requirements

A large Israeli presence at INDESEC Expo 2009 got a boost with The Israel Export Institute (IEI) confirming support for INDESEC Expo 2009. The Israel Export Institute (IEI) is the primary organisation facilitating trade ties, joint ventures and strategic alliances between overseas and Israeli companies.

Global homeland security companies confirm participation
Approximately 150 Indian and international companies will be exhibiting at INDESEC Expo 2009 including Microsoft, Boeing, L3, Reliance, Wipro, Bharat Electronics, EADS, BAE systems, MKU, Carl Walther, Armet Armored Vehicles, Blucher, Harting and Seabotix.

INDESEC Conference 2009 to focus on meeting India’s homeland security challenges
INDESEC Conference 2009 will be the meeting place for senior Indian and international security policy makers, strategists and industry leaders to discuss the evolving threats facing nations today and solutions to tackle India’s internal security challenges.
